Spirit Crossing has several ways to communicate with other players. What is available depends on your Friendship level with that person.
Proximity Chat
✨ Updated in version 14.9: Proximity chat is now unlocked at Friendship Level 1 — earlier than before — by introducing yourself to another player.
Proximity chat lets you send real-time text messages to nearby players. You unlock it once you reach Friendship Level 1 with another player, which happens when you introduce yourself to them. This change makes it easier to connect and coordinate during co-op activities, while still giving you control over who you chat with.
Before reaching Friendship Level 1, you and a stranger can still communicate by:
- Sitting on a bench together.
- Joining a Fluffalo Train together.
- Using Expressions.
ℹ️ Open chat within the same Fluffalo Train ride and Sit & Chat remain unchanged — these do not require a Friendship level.
Waystation Communication
Even without proximity chat, players can communicate asynchronously with Waystation members through two tools:
- Bulletin Board — found in the Waystation Vending Machine. Post messages for all Waystation members to read. Great for coordinating building projects and events.
- Signposts with Comments — place signposts in the Waystation or Wilderness for others to leave comments on. Comments stay hidden until liked by at least one friend.
Expressions Menu
✨ Updated in version 15.0: the Expressions menu no longer opens automatically after meeting a stranger, since proximity chat is now available at Friendship Level 1.
Expressions are still available at any time from the quick-action menu. They remain a great way to communicate non-verbally — especially before a Friendship level is established.
Keeping Chat Safe
Spirit Crossing is a welcoming community and we take player safety seriously. If you encounter someone acting against our Community Rules and Guidelines, you can Mute, Block, or Report them directly in-game. See Article "Player safety and community guidelines"
