Convert iOS save file to computer save file (Cozy Grove)

Notes

• IMPORTANT: Beginning in version 5.0.0, the converted save file won't work on your computer unless the computer version of the game also owns the New Neighbears DLC. This is because Apple Arcade installations get the New Neighbears DLC content for free, and thus the iOS saves will have content (e.g., butterflies and new bears) that won't work on installations that don't also own the New Neighbears DLC.
  
  • Apple Arcade installations on Macs have the New Neighbears DLC for free, but Steam and Epic Games Store versions of the game don't—it has to be purchased on those platforms. But if the computer owns the New Neighbears DLC then the transfer should work just fine.
  • Related, transferring an Apple Arcade save IS NOT a way to get the New Neighbears DLC content for free on your Windows computer. The save simply won't run unless the computer owns the DLC, too.
• If you're trying to transfer from your Mac to Windows or vice versa, you don't have to convert. Just find your save files on the first computer, then follow these instructions to import the save file into the other computer.
• If you're simply trying to transfer from your iOS device to your Mac, you can probably stop reading and let iCloud do it for you automatically instead.
  • So, this page is mostly for people who want to move their iOS saves to a Windows computer. But the resulting save file can indeed be used on Macs as well.
• This is a one-way conversion; you could reverse the conversion process, but you won't be able to import the saves directly back into your iOS device.
• If these instructions seem too confusing, you can email your save file to support@spryfox.com and ask us to do it for you. But all we're really doing for you is modifying a text file and renaming it, which many of our players are tech-savvy enough to do themselves. And waiting for us will almost certainly be slower than doing it yourself.

How to convert an iOS save file to a computer save file

1. Follow these instructions to download your iOS save file, but email it to yourself instead of to our Support team.
2. When you receive your email, open the email on your computer and save the "cozy_grove_save.sf" attachment to your computer. Make sure you take note of the location to which you save it!
3. On your computer, open the folder containing your newly saved cozy_grove_save.sf.
4. Open the file cozy_grove_save.sf in a text editor. On Windows, one built-in text editor is Notepad so that's what I'll assume you'll use, but you can use whichever text editor you want. Note that the file is large so it might take a bit longer to open than you're used to (but probably still well under 1 minute).
5. In your text editor, use the Find function (in Notepad the keyboard shortcut for this is ctrl+F) and look for all of the "dash" or "hyphen" characters (i.e., - ). You should find two sets of triple-dashes (i.e., --- ). These separate the data for the three save slots. (If one or more of your save files are empty, then the triple-dashes won't be separating anything but they'll still be in the file.) In the example screenshot below, this player only has Save Slot 1 data.
   
6. Pick a save slot that you want to convert. (Don't worry if you have more than one save slot to convert; we'll cover how to deal with the others.) Delete everything from the file except that particular save slot's data.
   • When you are done, there should be no whitespace or dashes before or after the data.
7. Save the file, then exit from your text editor.
8. Using exactly the names below, rename this cozy_grove_save.sf you've been editing according to where you want this save slot's data to show up on your computer. It doesn't matter which save slot this was on your iOS device; you can make it Save Slot 1, 2, or 3 on your computer as you like.
   • Save Slot 1: cg_save.sf . (Note that there is no "_1" in this file name!)
   • Save Slot 2: cg_save_2.sf
   • Save Slot 3: cg_save_3.sf
