Which version of iOS and/or generation of iOS device do I have?

The screenshots below will show you how to figure out the following:

  • Which version of iOS you are running (e.g., iOS 5.0 or iOS 6.1.3)
  • Which generation of device you have (e.g., is your iPad a 1st Generation iPad or a 3rd Generation iPad?)

These pieces of information can be important for several reasons:

  • Some apps won't work on certain versions of iOS. You may have to update your iOS to a newer version. However, please note that to our knowledge you can't go back to a previous version once you update.
  • Some apps won't run on certain device generations. This is regardless of whether you have the correct iOS version.
  • Sometimes there are problems that affect certain iOS versions and/or device generations. The support team may be trying to figure out if this applies to your situation.

Steps for getting your iOS Version and Device Generation

  1. Get to your device's Home screen (where you see all the icons for launching apps).
  2. Launch the Settings app.
  3. Click General.
  4. Click About.
  5. On the About page, look for the Version field. This is the iOS version.
  6. On the About page, look for the Model field. We can use this info to figure out what kind of device you have (iPad mini, iPad Air 2, etc.)
