Question:
Why is there a mismatch between the point values described outside an event and the point values described inside an event? E.g.:
+
versus
Answer:
Before you read on, please make sure that you understand how Final Score Bonus (henceforth, "FSB"), works. FSB is described here.
The reason that the point values say one thing when outside the event and another thing within the event is because we always report the numbers assuming that the FSB is being applied. Outside the event, we consider the bear by itself and calculate the numbers using only that bear's own FSB. But within the event, the FSBs of all bears are taken into account. In the example above:
- Fore Bear's power is to add 20 points if your word length is exactly 4. Outside of an event, the only thing it knows about its own 18% FSB, which boosts the number up to 23. But within the event, both bears' combined FSB of 954% boosts this up to 210 points.
- Twilight Bear's power is to add 15 points whenever any letter is played. Outside of an event, the only thing it knows about its own 936% FSB, which boosts the number up to 155. But within the event, both bears' combined FSB of 954% boosts this up to 158 points.
