Note: This article is specific to the original Alphabear game. We don't have a corresponding article for Alphabear 2, but you can learn more here about the AB2 dictionary.
Note: This is not an exhaustive list. But it will try to cover some of the most important changes.
Changes in version 01.02.00
Added to the dictionary (i.e., you can now play these words):
- We are making some explicit exceptions to the general rule that "words the must always be capitalized are not allowed". These are the first such exceptions.
- Days of the week. E.g., MONDAY.
- Months of the year. E.g., JANUARY.
- FAHRENHEIT and CELSIUS (the temperature scales).
- The names of some epochs, including PALEOLITHIC.
Removed from the dictionary (i.e., you can't play these words anymore):
- LOOR
- EE
- EA
Changes in version 01.05.00
Added to the dictionary (i.e., you can now play these words):
- Plurals of days of the week. E.g., MONDAYS.
- WATERSLIDE and WATERSLIDES
- FACEPALM
- HASHTAG
- LEDE
- LULZ
- RAGEQUIT, RAGEQUITS, and RAGEQUITTING
- SELFIE
- SHAWARMA
Removed from the dictionary (i.e., you can't play these words anymore):
- QI, SUQ, and all other such words where a Q is not immediately followed by a U - These may otherwise have been legitimate words, but since Alphabear only has a "Qu" tile and not a plain Q tile, it is impossible for these words to be played.
- CHINESE - We can't find a use for it that doesn't require capitalization. And we haven't yet decided to make exceptions to the "words the must always be capitalized are not allowed" rule for similar words like AMERICANS and JAPANESE.
- CANADA and CANADAS - (Actually it was a mistake for us to remove them. We thought there were no uncapitalized usages of these words, but there are. A caƱada is a small canyon or dry riverbed. We should re-add them.)
- CONNES
- TRUE and FALSE - This was a mistake we made when editing the dictionary. We will fix this in an upcoming release.
Changes in version 01.06.00
Added to the dictionary (i.e., you can now play these words):
- TRUE and FALSE - This rectifies the mistake we made in v01.05.00 .
Changes in version 01.08.00
Added to the dictionary (i.e., you can now play these words):
- Nations, the adjective for things related to that nation, and the nouns used to refer to people from that nation.
- E.g., UGANDA, UGANDAN, and UGANDANS are now playable.
