How does equipment progression work? – Spry Fox Support

✨ New in version 14.9: Equipment progression has been fully revamped with a new tier system and Forge upgrades. See below for full details.

Your character uses a set of tools to gather resources, catch Blots, and explore the Wilderness. As you play, you earn Expertise with each tool by using it, then upgrade it at a Forge for better harvest rewards. Tools can also receive Trusty or Lucky enhancements once fully upgraded.

Viewing Your Equipment

Open the Character menu by tapping the character head icon in the upper-left corner of the screen, then tap the shovel icon to see your current tools and their tier.

The Four Tiers of Progression

Each harvestable tool progresses through four tiers:

Tier	Description
Basic	Starting level for all tools after the 14.9 update.
Fine	Improved harvest rewards. Unlocked by earning enough Expertise.
Superior	Stronger harvest rewards. Prompts appear in the world showing where this tier helps.
Exquisite	Maximum tier. Required before applying a Trusty or Lucky enhancement.

Use a tool to harvest its associated resource — this earns Expertise for that specific tool. When you have accumulated enough Expertise, an 'Enhance Equipment' marker will appear. Take the tool to a Forge to upgrade it to the next tier.

Loot Prompts

When harvesting a resource that would yield better rewards with a higher-tier tool, you will see a prompt on the interact button — for example, 'Better with Superior Axe'. Use this as a guide for when to prioritise upgrading.

Trusty and Lucky Enhancements

Once a tool reaches Exquisite, you can apply one of two enhancements:

Trusty — has a lower crafting cost is more likely to give a moderate boost to loot
Lucky — has a higher crafting cost but gives a chance for big “jackpot” loot

Enhancements have a durability bar. When it runs out, the tool reverts to Exquisite — not all the way back to Basic — so your progression is preserved.

Which Tools Are Affected?

ℹ️ Why the reset? The team reset tool progression to Basic with 14.9 so all players experience the new upgrade sequence from the start, and so the team can monitor and test the system with a clean baseline. Any Trusty/Lucky enhancements were also cleared, since enhancements now require reaching Exquisite first.

Tool Bonuses and the Fluffalo Train

Other players' loot drops during co-op harvesting or Fluffalo Train rides are unaffected by your equipment's tier or enhancements. Your bonuses only apply to what you personally harvest.

💡 Tip: Upgrade your tools to the highest tier you can before joining a Fluffalo Train for the best personal harvest results.
