You may occasionally need to fully exit an app. There are several reasons you may need to do this, including:
- Freeing resources currently being used by apps you aren't actively using.
- If the game is stuck in a bad state and you think that maybe relaunching the app will help. If you're going to try relaunching, you should first fully exit the app to get rid of as much of the bad state as possible.
Nintendo Switch
Please follow these instructions from Nintendo: https://en-americas-support.nintendo.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/22450/~/how-to-start%2Fclose-a-game-or-software-application

Please follow these instructions from Microsoft: https://support.xbox.com/en-US/help/games-apps/apps-help/how-to-close-xbox-one-app-or-game
- Note that there's a difference between a short press and a long press. You want to do the short press; the long press will instead give you options for shutting down the system.
tvOS (Apple TV)
- Double-press the Home button (the one with a television icon). This will bring up a "carousel" that shows all of your running apps if you swipe sideways.
- In the carousel, scroll left and right to find the app you wish to exit. Then swipe upwards on an app to completely exit it. The app should disappear from the carousel if you've done it correctly.

Android 4.0 introduced the Task Manager / Recent Apps List. Apps can be fully exited from here.
(Note: These instructions use the Triple Town app as an example, but this technique should work for any app.)

- On the Samsung Galaxy S4, hold down the Home button for a few seconds. The Task Manager should come up.
