A note from Chedd (Spry Fox's CEO)
*****
Hi everyone - we know that a bunch of you have expressed the desire to play longer sessions each day, and that some of you are doing that by manipulating your PC's system clock to fast-forward time and get to the next "day" in the game immediately.
We are fine with you time-travelling this way if you choose to (it's your life!) Just please be aware that we didn't design the game with that behavior in mind. We think that it should work OK without any problems, as long as you don't roll back the clock later and load the game again as that can definitely confuse the system and might cause save file corruption.
So again: if you're going to fast-forward your system clock, which we're A-OK with, PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU NEVER TURN THE CLOCK BACK before loading the game or while playing the game. Doing so could corrupt your game in potentially irreversible ways and we will not be able to help you.
In the future, we may be able to find ways to find and fix the corruption issues that can be caused by time-travel and rolling back, but we really don't know how long that will take as it's a very complex thing given how the game is architected. So please just be careful.
It is also worth noting that we have hundreds of testers who have been helping us test the game since well before launch, but those testers are not time-traveling, so if you shoot too far forward into the future, you risk encountering edge case bugs that nobody else has encountered yet. Try not to let yourself get too far ahead if you want to have as blemish-free an experience as possible.
And lastly, while I'm on the topic, many of you have asked why the game is currently designed to dole out quests in a limited quantity each day. We've actually talked a lot about that publicly; we feel it creates a nice daily ritual that you can look forward to, which is a thing that a lot of people want. There are countless games available on Steam that you can binge, but very few that encourage you to make the game a relaxing, not-all-consuming daily habit. Not part of that note, but also important
Please *don't* email Support if your save gets goofed up because of time traveling. I'm sorry, but we're a small studio and don't have the manpower to fix it; you will have to get yourself unstuck or start over.
Things that may possibly fix themselves
- The sleeping/waking animation plays, but you're on the same Campaign Day as you were last time.
- You receive again an untimed quest that you've previously completed, but you're able to complete it this time, too.
- You try to talk to bears and no conversation screen comes up (not even one saying that they have nothing to say right now).
Please see this page to learn more about your situation and what can possibly be done about it
Things that probably won't fix themselves (i.e., please consider starting over)
- You received an untimed (storyline) quest that is a repeat of an untimed quest you already completed on this save slot.
- E.g., after doing the quest that upgrades the wooden shovel to a silver shovel, you again receive the quest to upgrade the wooden shovel to a silver shovel. You can't complete this quest because your wooden shovel no longer exists (it's already a silver shovel!) and there's no way to get another wooden shovel. And if you did somehow manage to complete the quest, the game would probably still be in a bad state because it wasn't programmed to handle multiple silver shovels.
Before you start over, you might want to ask the folks in the Cozy Grove Discord to confirm that you're in a really bad state. Players and even the wiki (which is written by players) are occasionally mistaken about when they should receive certain items. The Discord is also mostly players, but at least you'll have the opportunity to hear multiple "second opinions" before taking the drastic step of starting over.
