We're not sure why this happened to some players, but we have confirmed on our devices in mid-August 2022 that ads aren't universally broken.
Some of our players encountering this issue deleted and reinstalled the app and, after the cloud save gave them back their progress, found that ads began working for them again. We don't know why this would have helped, but please try that and see if it works for you, too. The app should download your cloud save automatically shortly after you reinstall it and launch the app.
