A major lamp is basically just a big lamp that you can't pick up or place. You'll find a few of them as the island reaches certain points in its development (currently Scout Levels 6, 11, 15, 16, and 17).
- Next to each major lamp is a sectioned-off area, like the sectioned-off area around Flamey. Animals, trees, furniture, etc. that you place within these sectioned-off areas won't get moved around when the island regenerates, whereas they might get moved around if you place them outside this area. Please see this page for more information on stuff getting moved when the island regenerates.
- There happens to be a major lamp near each sectioned-off area, but you don't have to activate the lamp to make the sectioned-off area safe. But since harvestables need color and since you probably don't want your harvestables getting moved around, lighting the major lamp and putting harvestables in the nearby sectioned-off area so they can benefit from both the light and the safety can be an efficient strategy.
- The major lamps are like the normal lamps—they need to be connected to color to turn on, and they'll stay on so long as their source of color is intact, but if they lose their source of color (e.g., if the chain of lamps that brings them color is broken, or if the bear providing the color for the chain becomes uncolored) then they'll lose power and have to be connected to color again.
