This page lists some of the special tiles you'll encounter Alphabear 2. Note that these tiles and their behaviors may change as the game evolves, and this page may not always be up-to-date with the current state of the game.
Star Tile - When you reveal the Star Tile's letter (by playing an adjacent letter), the letter's initial lifetime will be much larger than normal. E.g., if most newly revealed letters on a particular board have an initial lifetime of 3, a newly revealed letter on a Star Tile might have an initial lifetime of 10. (Note: the 3 and 10 are just example values.)
Locked Tile - A lock icon around a letter tile's lifetime means that this tile won't lose lifetime on each turn. Note that this is different than both a Lock Tile and a Frozen Tile, both of which are described below.
Dino Egg Tile - The number on a Dino Egg Tile starts at 1 and will increase by 1 each turn. When you reveal the Dino Egg Tile's letter (by playing an adjacent letter), the letter's initial lifetime will be the number that was on the Dino Egg Tile. Try to wait as long as possible before revealing the Dino Egg Tile's letter!
Sun/Moon Tile - Sun Tiles and Moon Tiles are two sides of the same coin, and they'll flip to the other side after each turn until their letters are revealed (by playing an adjacent letter). If the Sun/Moon Tile is showing a Sun when its letter is revealed, the letter will have an initial lifetime of 12, whereas it will only have an initial lifetime of 2 if a Moon is showing when the letter is revealed. Thus, it is advantageous to reveal the letters of Suns and avoid revealing the letters of Moons. (I.e., if possible, wait one turn for the Moon to become a Sun, and reveal the letter then.)

Dice Tile - On each turn, two things about a Dice Tile randomly change: its position and its number. The possible numbers are 1, 4, 7, 10, and 13. (The dice are just a metaphor. We know that you can't roll a 1 or a 13 on pair of fair dice.) When you reveal the Dice Tile's letter (by playing an adjacent letter), the letter's initial lifetime will be the number that was on the Dice Tile. Try to reveal the Dice Tile's letter when the Dice Tile shows a high number!
|
Lock Tile and Key Tile - You can activate a Key Tile by playing an adjacent letter. Until you do so, no Lock Tiles on the board can have their letters revealed. When the Key Tile is activated, the Key Tile and all Lock Tiles become normal letter tiles. This will result in a lot of new letters appearing and beginning their progression toward becoming Rocks, so you might want to wait until you have the board under control before activating the Key Tile. Alternatively, there are some boards in which you will run out of letters to play unless you quickly make your way to the Key Tile and activate it. |
Megaphone Tile - The number on a Megaphone Tile is the Word Score of the most recent word played. When you reveal the Megaphone Tile's letter (by playing an adjacent letter), the letter's initial lifetime will be the number that was on the Megaphone Tile. Try to reveal the Megaphone Tile's letter just after playing a high-scoring word!
Skull Tile - When you reveal the Skull Tile's letter (by playing an adjacent letter), the letter's initial lifetime will be 1. Try to have the board under control before revealing a Skull Tile, because a 1-lifetime letter is only one turn away from turning into a Rock.
Lightbulb Tile - When you reveal the Lightbulb Tile's letter (by playing an adjacent letter), you'll also reveal a bunch of letters near the Lightbulb tile. As with Key Tiles, you might want to wait until the board is under control before doing this since all of the newly revealed tiles will begin their progression toward becoming Rocks.
Frozen Tile - A Frozen Tile cannot be normally played until you first unfreeze it. You can unfreeze a Frozen Tile by playing an adjacent letter, or there are some Bear Powers that will unfreeze a Frozen Tile. Note that a Frozen Tile will lose lifetime on each turn unless it happens to be both Locked and Frozen. |
